Frequently Asked Questions

What is a McKenzie Memories Commemorative?

Each commemorative is a personalized memento of a special occasion or accomplishment.

These personalized commemoratives make the perfect gift for hunters, fishermen, and sportsmen. Other customers have chosen to commemorate numerous special occasions such as athletic events or academic achievements. We can commemorate any event for you, your family, or customers.

What Is A Lucite?

McKenzie Memories Lucites are crystal-like, cast and highly polished, mementos made from a clear polymer. Not to be confused with plastic holders where a photograph is inserted between the plastic, in our Lucite your image and information is molded into the commemorative creating a solid, heavy memento which will last a lifetime.

Your supplied photograph and personalized information is laid out by our staff artists and permanently embedded in the Lucite, where it appears to magically "float."

Each beautiful Lucite is a unique, one-of-a-kind treasure and makes an elegant addition to any setting.

What Is A Tile?

McKenzie Memories Commemorative Tiles are top quality ceramic tiles onto which we permanently burn your custom image and personalized information.

As with our Lucites, your supplied photograph and personalized information is laid out by our staff artists and permanently preserved on the tile.

Our tiles have been processed with a special coating that receives the image in our system. Though not "bullet-proof," our tiles are scratch and stain resistant. McKenzie Memories tiles are provided to you with a cork backing and integral hanger, all at no extra charge.

Our commemorative tiles are produced in two sizes; the large is 6 inches square, while the small is 4.25 inches square.

Do I Have To Send My Photograph Over The Internet?

While uploading your photo is the easiest and least expensive method, we can work with your supplied photo. However, you should not send an original photo which you wish to be returned. We do not return mailed-in photos. For this reason, we suggest you have a scan done from your original photo and send a copy of the photo or the digital file once it has been scanned. If we have to scan your photo, there is an additional charge of $25.00 for the scan.

Considering the additional costs of mailing a photo to us and having us scan and return it to you, it is certainly cheaper to have someone scan and upload the photo for you. Most of your local office supply companies or copy shops will scan your photo for a few dollars and it will not be necessary for you to ship your photograph. Any photograph that you choose to ship should be insured and mailed to: McKenzie Memories, PO Box 480, Granite Quarry, NC 28072.

Can I Order Multiples From the Same Photograph?

Yes.

Many customers have chosen to have a commemorative item made for each member of their group. We can take your uploaded photo and make as many commemoratives as you wish.

What Options Do I Have Available To Me?

As you may have seen while surfing our website, McKenzie Memories commemoratives are generally comprised of personalized information and a photograph of either a vertical or horizontal format.

Lucites are made in one of three formats - vertical, horizontal or square, with an image on the upright portion and the personalized information on the bottom portion.

Our staff artists will determine which of these three formats best suits your supplied photograph and personalized information.

Tiles are produced with the supplied image on the same piece as the personalized information in two sizes; the large tile is 6 inches square, while the small is 4.25 inches square.

McKenzie Memories offers a lovely walnut stand for either size tile to display on a desk or shelf.

What type of information should I include on my commemorative?

Typically most people supply a photograph and some information concerning the special occasion or accomplishment such as the date and location of the event.

We use the exact information you submit so it is very important to make sure it is spelled and listed correctly. As a general guideline, less is more. Keep your wording short and brief to maximize the impact of your McKenzie Commemorative.

If you wish to have a state or country map outline as part of your information on the commemorative, just select the appropriate state or country on the order form.

Can I order my commemorative over the phone?

Because of the need to transmit your photo and information to us, all purchases should be made using our website.

Will a photo from any digital camera work?

Current, popular digital cameras produce files that are between 3.5 and 6 mega-pixels; these will work very well.

The technology is right around the corner but most camera phones do not produce an image large enough to use for a commemorative.

How Long Does It Take to Get My Commemorative Made?

Once we receive your order, we will immediately layout your photo and information and offer a proof to you. As soon as we receive the okay on your proof, your tile will be ready in about 10 days and the Lucite will only take three to four weeks.

How will my McKenzie Memories Commemorative be shipped?

All commemoratives will be shipped via UPS ground. Your Lucite commemorative will be shipped from our location in Maine and the tiles will be shipped from our plant in North Carolina. Our shipping rates apply only to shipping within the United States.

What is your return policy?

Our artists make every effort to present your photograph in it’s most favorable setting. If we do not feel the supplied photograph will produce a quality commemorative, we will notify you and you will not be charged. However, once we have emailed your proof and you have approved it, we are not able to accept the commemorative for return.

What should I know about copyrights?

When you supply a digital image or photograph to us you are agreeing that it is your photograph or that you have permission from the copyright owner of the photo to use it for reprinting. Do not send any photo for which you do not have permission.
